 Message from the President

Dear Alumni Association Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to greet all of you with a spirit of cooperation, respect, vision and a sincere work ethic. I humbly request your support to make this association your association . This is also my first official website message to you as your new president for the year 2005. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve but equally excited about the potential growth of the association. I look forward to working with all of you in the near future on a number of immediate initiatives that will create a solid foundation as we move forward.

Thank you to the other Executive Officers:
Vice President -Andre Kellum '88’
Treasurer - Eric Warren '81
Secretary - Lovetta Houston ‘83’

Directors:
Tom Sisul '60'
Darrel Burns '86'
Kimberly Lacey '83'
David Putnam '55
Karen Fitzpatrick '85*

The officers and directors will give their personal best to make this association meaningful to its members, and supportive to present and future students that will share the unique experiences we had at Lindblom. I am encouraging your support to serve on the various committees to further foster the vision and spirit for our association. The year 2005 will be a rewarding year for the Lindblom family. I am hopeful those as we grow, we will have a greater impact on the young eaglet’s and generate more interaction among our vast alumni base.

The new Renaissance that will kick-off in the fall 0f 2005 is viewed with optimism, great anticipation and many questions. Lindblom is transitioning to another level of academic leadership as we seek to reclaim our position and again set the pace for other schools to follow. We will again soar high and swoop to get down in the areas of educational excellence, special programming initiatives, sports and setting the bar for other Chicago Public High Schools. Our unique experiences at Lindblom prepared us for life and our graduates are second to none nationally and internationally. We have left large foot prints in all areas of academia and business. We will share some of those successes in the future as we develop our database and our website. Lindblom is truly special. We need your support and involvement.

Future meeting dates will be posted on the website and announcements will be made prior to each meeting. Please try to attend. Additionally, please provide recommendations or feedback to the site managers. We value your input.

I thank you all in advance for your hard work and dedication as we work to build this association. Let us come together and do this for our members and future Eagles.

Go Eagles……………Swoop Swoop Swoop

Willie Denton
President, Lindblom Alumni Association
Class of '71

Mr. Denton:

I am a 1968 graduate of Lindblom Technical High School.  Publicity about
the 1978-68 Reunion weekend prompted me to look on line for information
about Lindblom. I came across your website.  I am writing to suggest a
project that may prompt greater interest and involvement in alumni
activities by Lindblom's alumni.

I would imagine that all alumni would have a common interest in the
history of Lindblom, from its beginnings until today.  My suggestion is
that you solicit at least one person to write a short history for each
decade of the school's existence.  I think Lindblom opened in 1917.  So
that would mean one person to write the history of Lindblom from
1917-1919; another to write its history from 1920-1929; another to write
its history from 1930-1939, etc.

I notice that the alumni website already lists a number of classs
representatives.  Those persons, or persons they solicit from their
class, would be natural persons to take on one of more of the decades.
I also noticed a message on the alumni website from Mary Ann Tanking,
Great Grandniece of Robert Lindblom.  Her email address is not listed,
but she mentions that her mother is writing a memoir that will include
information about LTHS, and her message requests information from
alumni.  She, undoubtedly, could make a great contribution to the work
of the various authors who take on responsibility for writing a chapter
about a decade in the history of Lindblom.

There also ought to be a central repository for the archival papers, and
yearbooks, for Lindblom over the years.  I imagine the Chicago Board of
Education would be that repository and that the current principal (Mr.
Mather) would be happy to take on the job of retrieving it to assist
alumni who agree to prepare individual 10 year histories for the
Lindblom Alumni website.

I am copying Greg McLain, who is the representative for 1968, the year I
graduated, to let him know I would be willing to volunteer (alone, or
with others) to write the history for the 1960-68 decade of Lindblom's
history.

Everyone's busy, so this can't be some overly ambitious, never-gets-done
project.  Anything would be a great start,  and an improvement over the
large vacuum that now exists.  And, as I mentioned, I think it would
help bind the different generations of alumni together and give them a
common project to work on.  Once completed, that would justify asking
for money to fund the cost of a dynamic website from which alumni could
realize real value.

Thanks for considering this proposal and my offer of assistance in
helping to pull it off.
